World Communism Team started this new stretch of the season at the back of a brilliant win in Friedrichshafen - Ravensburg, in great form and in very high spirit.
The first race of the series was Stellenbosch - Bloubergstrand, a short domestic flight away from the teams HQ in Centurion, where Kuumba Rusesabagina was hotly tipped to take a home win for the team. Unfortunately for the boy from the Tanganyika, he touched wheels with another rider early in the race and crashed. His teammates were able to bring him back, but the team had expanded energy that would have been much needed at the finish. Despite the circumstances Kuumba Rusesabagina still was able to secure a very satisfactory second place, only beaten by Ladislav Vebr of Australian outfit Historia.
Following this, World Communism Team made its way to Scandinavia, to race in Rundt om Vejle for the fourth time in as many seasons. Addis Gebreselassie, as the winner of this race last season, focusing on the task to defend his title in this historic race counted amongst the oldest events in the OCM calendar. Unlike in season 52, Addis Gebreselassie this time failed to cross the line first, and was beaten to the finish by Adam Reis of Vojvodina NS. Still securing another very valuable 2nd place finish for the team.
Straight from the Vejle region, the team travelled to Thailand for our U23 squad to line up for Pattani - Narathiwat (U23). World Communism Team had lined up a very strong outfit, with Kuumba Rusesabagina and Michel Ngabo paired together for the occasion.
Despite very strong competition by U23 hillers on the day. World Communism Team was able to control the race clinically and bring Kuumba Rusesabagina to another great U23 win. The second for him this season. Leaving Edgardo Orizaga of NightmareChaos in second place, and Team Arctic’s Clément Bigaruka completing the podium in third.
The team then made its way back to Denmark again for Faaborg - Svanninge with hope for another great result. But this was to be the end of the team’s hot streak, as Addis Gebreselassie, riding as a hill helper on the day, crashed heavily and picked up an injury, with captain Kuumba Rusesabagina not able to make the top 9 without his help.
After crossing to neighbouring Germany, Leopoldbahn GP went even worse, with most of the 6-man squad caught in a big pile up crash. And with young teammate and jobber Mike Lalang picking up an injury of his own.
At the beginning of the season the chairman of the team had announced targeting 7 official results, including two wins. At this point in the season, this has been met and exceeded, as the team has secured 3 wins, and another 4 results, for a total of 7 official results.
